Chord Melody Fundamentals
For those that are indeed starting from scratch, and even for those that aren't, I've got some good news for you. I'm going to teach you the fundamentals of chord melody and the three fundamental ways of applying it to guitar: the chord family approach, the chord pair approach and the alternating chord/note style.
There is no ironclad rule as to how you would play the melody and the chords at the same time, but the most common principle is that you would typically use the highest note on the chord as the note for the melody and you would use the lowest note on the chord as your root chord. The rule can change at times, like for example when the root note is in fact part of the melody or when the melody involves some melodic minor harmony, diminished harmony or even whole tone harmony. The first method of chord melody that I am going to show you is the chord family approach. The chord family approach uses the chords that harmonize with the scale and applies them to the notes in the song's melody. To demonstrate the key principles and the momentary exceptions, I am first going to show you an example of the chord family approach on the C major, C minor, C dominant, C altered dominant, C diminished and C whole tone scale, going up the scale, using both Tablature and a youtube link:

Remember to experiment with different chords. The chords I am using are only examples and you can often use more than one chord position for the same note.
The next fundamental chord melody approach is the chord pair approach, which is similar to the chord family approach with the exception that you are also using another chord from a different chord family and alternating between the two chord families as you go up the scale. You can't do this with the whole tone and altered dominant scale, however, because both scales can only work harmonically with one chord family. Here are the examples for the C major, C minor, C dominant and C diminished scales, once again, using tablature and a youtube link. Notice that the diminished chord positions don't change. That's because any note on the diminished chord can act as a root:

Remember to practice these examples going up and down the scale in EVERY KEY.THIS IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT. That way you won't struggle on any key and it makes you a more well-rounded guitarist when playing.

The Faster Guitar Player Workout (In Depth)
The method to playing faster and to continue to build speed without losing sound quality is simple to understand, yet hard to stay disciplined and do. It requires a tremendous amount of focus and it will drive your fingers and finger joints into a never ending torrent of burning pain for however long you intend to practice this method, maybe even longer. Personally, I don't understand why guitarists would go through with this when it's easier just to be well rounded, learn to play multiple genres, do a decent solo every now and then and be quiet enough to please any potential singer in their respective country. However, most guitarists wanna do Jimi Hendrix and Yngwie Malmsteem so I guess I feel inclined to reveal my practicing method.
The practicing method involves using the 24 possible fingering combinations, listed here:

To understand these fingering combinations, you have to assume that you would number all of the fingers that you generally use to play (from my index to my pinky) consecutively from one to four. The index would be one, the middle finger would be two, the ring finger would be three, and the pinky finger would be four. You would start the pattern with your starting finger on the respective fret (1 on the first fret, 2 on the second fret, etc.) of the low E string, play every string consecutively until you hit the high E string, then move back down to the low E string. After repeating the pattern on the low E string, move all of your fingers up the neck by one fret, then move up and down the strings the same way. Continue doing this until your index finger is playing on the twelfth fret. At this point, after completing the pattern on the twelfth fret, you should be moving down a fret until you arrive where you were at the beginning of the exercise, which would be each finger number at their consecutive fret number. Make sure that when you're doing the exercise, you're using a metronome and setting the tempo at a pace where you can complete the exercise without making a single timing or pitch error,steadily increasing the tempo by five every time you complete the exercise perfectly. Don't pick up where you left off if you make a mistake. Start over from the beginning and strive to complete the exercise perfectly every time. Doing this will make sure that you're not sacrificing sound quality for speed. It is also important that you repeat the preceding exercise with all 24 combinations so that you can personally feel the strengths and weaknesses of your fingers in terms of flexibility and dexterity.
You'll know that your fingers are fast enough and flexible enough to perform any soloist line when you can complete all twenty four finger combinations playing sixteenth notes at 200 beats per minute. You'll be able to do Yngwie Malmsteem and Jimi Hendrix with ease, and might even be able to perform complex jazz lines like Pat Metheny, Wes Montgomery or George Benson. There are some guitarists that go even faster, eclipsing speeds of even 700 beats per minute on Youtube.

To understand these fingering combinations, you have to assume that you would number all of the fingers that you generally use to play (from my index to my pinky) consecutively from one to four. The index would be one, the middle finger would be two, the ring finger would be three, and the pinky finger would be four. You would start the pattern with your starting finger on the respective fret (1 on the first fret, 2 on the second fret, etc.) of the low E string, play every string consecutively until you hit the high E string, then move back down to the low E string. After repeating the pattern on the low E string, move all of your fingers up the neck by one fret, then move up and down the strings the same way. Continue doing this until your index finger is playing on the twelfth fret. At this point, after completing the pattern on the twelfth fret, you should be moving down a fret until you arrive where you were at the beginning of the exercise, which would be each finger number at their consecutive fret number. Make sure that when you're doing the exercise, you're using a metronome and setting the tempo at a pace where you can complete the exercise without making a single timing or pitch error,steadily increasing the tempo by five every time you complete the exercise perfectly. Don't pick up where you left off if you make a mistake. Start over from the beginning and strive to complete the exercise perfectly every time. Doing this will make sure that you're not sacrificing sound quality for speed. It is also important that you repeat the preceding exercise with all 24 combinations so that you can personally feel the strengths and weaknesses of your fingers in terms of flexibility and dexterity.
You'll know that your fingers are fast enough and flexible enough to perform any soloist line when you can complete all twenty four finger combinations playing sixteenth notes at 200 beats per minute. You'll be able to do Yngwie Malmsteem and Jimi Hendrix with ease, and might even be able to perform complex jazz lines like Pat Metheny, Wes Montgomery or George Benson. There are some guitarists that go even faster, eclipsing speeds of even 700 beats per minute on Youtube.

My Brand New Logo
As a musician, I thought itwould be good to have a logo, since everyone else I see playing music successfully has one, so here it is:
I couldn't make it 3d because then I would have to buy a 3d design software, which upset me at first, but after awhile I started to feel (and am currently feeling) that making it 3d would actually make the design suck. And I could very well be right about this. I'm just going to stick to being satisfied that I completed my logo and that It resonates (hopefully) with my personality and want I want to project as a musician.
The letters inside the pentagram represent my values as a human being. I am an atheist so I don't see the pentagram as a symbol of anything particularly pagan. I just use it because I have five fundamental values that circle around my life. Anyways, here are what the five letters of the pentagram represent:
H-Honesty
L-Loyalty
J-Justice
M-Motivation
R-Respect
I chose honesty because I believe that honesty is the cure to all of the ills of mankind at the moment. When we decide to be honest with ourselves and with each other about what our problems are, then we can figure out how to fix them. Only if we do that can we ever hope to acheive the next step in societal evolution.
Loyalty is something I picked because of my belief that we all have familial and societal obligations, particularly with debts owed to others. Our respective families should be our top priority, especially since that was the very reason for your existence. You should also repay debts and be cordial to fellow human beings.
I believe strongly in justice, but only in justice to prevent chaos. I believe in the government's right to administer laws and enforce them, but I believe that government's powers should be limited to what is absolutely necessay to protect other people's rights. I also believe that a civilised society, with the means to care for the sick and the injured, should do what it can to provide treatment as often as possible. To neglect this aspect of our society's obligations is not neglecting mercy, but neglecting justice itself.
I believe that motivation is a fundamental value for everyone. Everyone should have, understand and act on their motivation or motivations to work hard and to pursue their aims. Having something that motivates you will prevent laziness and idleness which is detrimental to society and its progression.
Respect is key to our decorum as a society. We have to respect every view point and we can not persecute people for their religious or anti religious view points. We also can not discriminate regardless of the reasoning or the feigned excuse we may have. If you were born that way and are not clinically ill, then you need not be changed, and we must accept you as an equal.
Anyway, those are the five virtues that I have. I hope you like the logo, what it represents, and the music you hear as well. Check out the music on my Youtube page at BullBritishDog. I put a lot of time into the writing. And keep posted on my blog. I'll be giving out guitar secrets to playing faster and cleaner while soloing.
